Keep Apache patched

Security articles in the mainstream technical media often focus on the importance of keeping your Web server patched to the most recent security release. Unfortunately, these articles are often Microsoft-centric and focus on the use of tools like Microsoft’s IIS Lockdown Tool and the Windows Update service to keep your system current. While this is great advice, it’s important to remember that there are a large number of Web servers out there running Apache on Linux for cost efficiency and stability purposes. Estimates vary regarding the actual percentage of servers running Apache, ranging from a low of around 25% all the way up to 66%. Regardless of the actual figure, Apache is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
