Securing Travel and the Boot Process with Windows 8

Windows 8 is probably coming to your network in the near future – if it’s not already there, that is!  While many enterprises are delaying the official adoption of Microsoft’s new operating system, manufacturers are now shipping devices with the operating system preinstalled.  In fact, it’s quite difficult for a consumer to walk into a store and purchase a system running the “outdated” Windows 7 OS.  If your organization allows any form of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) computing, the imminent arrival of Windows 8 is inevitable.

One of the first concerns on the minds of technologists when they see a new OS arrive on the scene is “What does this mean from a security perspective?”  Fortunately, with Windows 8, the news is good.  In this article, we will look at two specific areas where Windows 8 provides enhanced security functionality that you may wish to consider using in your environment: boot security and secure remote computing.
