SSL: A quick primer

Most information security professionals have at least a passing familiarity with the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. You’re probably aware it’s used to authenticate and encrypt Internet communications. However, you might not be familiar with what goes on “under the hood” of SSL. If you currently use SSL in your environment or plan to use it in the future, it’s important that you have a basic understanding of the protocol’s capabilities and its common uses.
